Julia Holmes has exhibited at the
biggest Horse Trials in this country, Badminton
and Burghley for over 30 years, so is well known
for the wide variety of pictures of animals,
particularly horses and dogs she has on her
stand.
There are old views of hunting,
particularly by famous artists of the nineteenth
century, such as Henry Alken or well loved artists
of the 1930 period, such as Lionel Edwards,
F.A.Stewart, Gilbert Holiday, Cecil Aldin,
etc.
Or they could be wonderfully evocative
pictures of the trials or pleasures of driving,
perhaps in a coach with members of the exclusive
Four in Hand Club or struggling through a snow
storm to deliver the mail.
Racing is always
popular, so most racecourses are shown in views by
Lionel Edwards or there are earlier engravings of
proud owners and grooms holding their winning
thoroughbreds.
Polo scenes are harder to
find, but both antique and modern ones do appear
and small pictures of breeds such as Shetlands or
Arabs are reasonably priced.
Of the modern
prints, which are mainly Limited Editions signed
by the artist, the most popular are the very
distinctive ones by Lydia Kiernan, now selling
well all over the world.
The full range may
be seen at the shows and prices start at about
£25.
Judy Goodman's work is different in
that, as a portrait artist with many satisfied
customers who are delighted with her paintings of
their pets, her work is more detailed and she
depicts dressage riders, racing, Polo, hunting,
hackneys and even prints of a horses ears or one
eye, which is one of the best sellers! A small
catalogue is available of Judy's work. Do
telephone if you are looking for a particular
artist or subject as prints may be sent on
approval, by post. |
